As a 35 year veteran with these cars (from 2002s and coupes, to E3 bavaria, E30, E24, and E28 models) I've started getting obsessive about fasteners.
I have fancy, tall steel cabinet with drawers and a gazillion compartments in it for storing every fastener I anticipate needing while I work on cars (both professionally and my own vehicles.) It's a magical place where I find things that save my butt during a project, or allow me the peace of mind that comes from installing new fasteners, without worrying about losing the decrepit old ones somewhere in the dark recesses of my garage.
After much thought and decades of experience, I have assembled a Master Fastener Kit that has the majority of items you're likely to need when restoring or working on your car.
Need body nuts to hold your pre 1974 grills in place? They're in there. Exhaust studs? Copper nuts? They're in there. A set of shiny new acorn nuts for the valve cover? You guessed it.... IN THERE! I've even added those slick female wiring harness terminals that "click in" to relay and alternator plug housings with a locking tab. Washers. Nuts. Sheet metal screws for radiator or fender mounting.... all in there as well. I got tired of paying 50 cents or more for every nut I needed at the local hardware store during a project, and I've tried to condense and dial in this kit to serve as a superb "almost everything you'll need" kit for classic BMW home/workshop/garage practicality.
